At present, a variety of new mechanical seals using new materials and processes have made rapid progress. There are the following new mechanical seals. In recent years, the grooved seal technology of seal face has opened various flow grooves on the seal end face of mechanical seal to produce hydrostatic and dynamic pressure effects, and it is still constantly updated. Zero leakage sealing technology used to think that contact and non-contact mechanical seals can not achieve zero leakage (or no leakage). A new concept of zero leakage non-contact mechanical end face seal was proposed by Israel using grooved seal technology and has been used in lubricating oil pumps of nuclear power plants. The dry running gas seal technology is used for sealing gas seals by slotting. The upstream pumping seal technology means that a small amount of leakage fluid pump downstream is sent back to the upstream by using a groove on the sealing surface. The structural features of these seals are as follows: shallow grooves are used, and the film thickness and the depth of the groove are in the order of micron. Lubrication grooves, radial sealing dams and circumferential sealing weirs are used to form the sealing and bearing parts. It can also be said that slotting seal is a combination of plane seal and slotted bearing. It has the advantages of small leakage (even no leakage), large film thickness, eliminating contact friction, low power consumption and heat generation. The hydrodynamic sealing technology uses various deep sealing surface flow grooves to cause local thermal deformation and produce hydrodynamic wedge effect. This kind of seal with hydrodynamic pressure bearing capacity is called thermal fluid wedge seal.
