If the displacement of the interface is large, a low modulus PTFE seal should be selected in order to minimize the stress on the interface. When the interface is part of the load-bearing structure, a high modulus PTFE seal should be selected.
In order to improve the adhesion, the substrate should be cleaned and dried before bonding to remove dust, grease or other contaminants from the surface of the substrate. To remove grease, wipe it with a cloth dampened with a suitable solvent and then wipe it again with another clean cloth.
CAUTION: Do not use detergent or soap to clean the surface of the substrate as residue may affect the bonding. To remove surface dust, use oil-free compressed air.
Testing is important in order to enhance the adhesion of the Teflon seal to the substrate and to ensure compatibility of the Teflon seal with the substrate under various application conditions. The test method should simulate the expected practical application as much as possible.
3. Interface size
Usually the width should be twice the depth. However, sometimes it is necessary to consider local regulations or to meet the size specified.
The operating time must be strictly controlled within the surface time of the Teflon seal. Uncured excess Teflon seals can be dried or soaked with rags (soaked with a suitable and compatible solvent). The excess PTFE seal that has been cured can be removed using a remover.
